Your left turn/stop light circuit is shorting out to the brake output circuit of your trailer wiring. Normally when this happens it is the right turn signal circuit since the pins on a 7-way of these two circuits are right next to each other.

It sounds like the rain water caused a short and drew power to the electric trailer brakes causing them to lock up. the brake controller, since it is inside the vehicle and not exposed to the elements, would not have been affected by the weather so there isn't an adjustment you would have to make to account for rain.

Since the connector on your vehicle is functioning properly you are correct in assuming that it is likely a ground issue causing your lights to no longer work. There should also be a main ground on the tongue of the trailer as you mentioned.

My concern is the Curt TriFlex Trailer Brake Controller # C24VV not getting enough power on your 2018 Audi Q7. There is a technical bulletin which I have linked below since the wiring on your Q7 will not provide enough power to the trailer brakes which is causing the OL error you are getting. The issue you are describing comes up now and again with certain Nissan vehicles. Apparently, depending on which plant the vehicle was built in, the brake output wire and the 12 volt power wire are reversed on the vehicle wiring harness.
Basically to fix the problem all you have to do is swap the blue and black wires inside of the Curt harness 7-Way part that plugs into the vehicle # C56226. There are a couple of ways to do this:

To answer your question, you'll need to determine the function of those other two wires. If I had to guess, I'd say your pop-up most likely has a 6-way connector. One of the unknown wires is probably for trailer brakes and the other one is likely a 12-volt accessory power feed to the trailer, most likely used to maintain an on-board battery.
